MAHC job fair sees a variety of nurses looking for work

Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare is on its way to hiring a new batch of nurses. MAHC held a recruitment fair for registered nurses at the end of March at the Huntsville hospital, as it was looking to fill a number of positions. Robert Alldred-Hughes, MAHC’s Chief Executive of Human Resources and Support Services, says 19 nurses came to the job fair, and 17 were interviewed on the spot.

Alldred-Hughes says MAHC is looking to fill around 15 positions in various departments, including the emergency department, obstetrics, and surgical unit. He says a number of the applicants were looking to move from other jobs in Ontario to the Muskoka area, and others are new graduates looking to start their career with Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare.

He also says the successful candidates could end up working at either of two sites, which are in Huntsville and Bracebridge.

Alldred-Hughes says the location is determined based on the need of the position; when a job is advertised it’s posted as either a single-site position or a multi-site position.

He says it’s common for MAHC to be looking for around 15 nurses, as it comes with the territory in terms of people looking for opportunity elsewhere, changing careers or retiring. He says turnover is natural, but hiring in Muskoka is a selling point for the organization.

If you missed the recruitment fair for nurses, or want to apply for another position, you can check out what’s open on the MAHC website, and email your resume to [email protected] if you’re looking to apply for a position. Alldred-Hughes says more recruitment fairs are coming up, and the MAHC team will also be attending a number of fairs across the province over the next year.
