Donation to the Gravenhurst Fire Department going towards smoke alarms for the community

The Gravenhurst Fire Department is going to be giving away free smoke alarms thanks to a recent donation. Stan Darling Insurance and Gidley & Associates Insurance Brokers have donated $1,000 to the fire department to go towards its Alarmed for Life program.

Fire Chief Larry Brassard says the community has been supporting the program for decades, and the fire department has been able to give out hundreds of detectors to needy homes, at no cost to taxpayers. He says smoke alarms that are properly placed and maintain are essential to home safety. He gives the example of a fire over the summer in Gravenhurst where a woman was able to escape a home fire in the middle of the night because of the smoke alarm.

Anyone in need can call the fire department at 705-687-3414 to make sure your home is protected.
