UPDATE: Gas leak forcing evacuation on Main Street
Update: Main Street has been reopened.
A broken gas main is forcing an evacuation downtown Huntsville. It happened at an apartment building between Lorne and Centre. Fire crews are now on the scene, and the police say nobody was injured.
Emergency crews are evacuating people in the area, and asking people to stay away as there is a health hazard if you get too close. There is a strong smell of gas in the air, and a loud hissing sound as the gas continues to leak.
No cars are getting through, as Main Street is blocked off between Centre and Lorne. The OPP doesn’t have a timeline on when the road will reopen and when it will be safe to be in the area again.
