Local police officer supports legalization of marijuana

A local police officer says it’s time to legalize marijuana. Dan Mulligan is also on the executive with the Parry Sound-Muskoka Federal Liberal Party Association. He’s making the rounds drumming up interest in a free public screening of the marijuana documentary ‘The Union’, which is being shown at Nipissing University’s Bracebridge Campus on Tuesday, February 4th.

Mulligan says the medicinal properties of cannabis help many today and that its time for a change to our laws.

Mulligan stresses his views are personal and have no connection with his being a police officer. OPP Media constable Peter Leon says the OPP as an organization don’t support calls for legalization.

Leon says if you are caught with pot, you will be charged and face consequences.

The screening for ‘The Union’ happens in the University’s classroom #2 at 7pm and will be followed by an optional question and answer period between 8:45 and 9:30pm.
