Lake of Bays is on board with the new fibre-op plan in Muskoka

Lake of Bays is throwing its support behind a pitch to bring fibre-op to Muskoka. The pitch from Lakeland Holding was reviewed at yesterday’s council meeting, which is to install a trunk line that’s over 400-kilometres long, meaning more than 3,000 homes and businesses will have access. Although some concerns were raised about the line not reaching Dorset, in the end council agreed it’s a good starting point.

The project is costing $25 million in total. The District of Muskoka has agreed to a $10 million loan to cover a portion of the cost as long as the federal government will give 75 per cent back once the work is done.

Lakeland Holding is going to apply for the funds, and should have an answer this summer. The project will connect all six municipalities Muskoka. It will also reach some of Parry Sound and the Wahta Mohawk Territory.
