Georgian Bay Township looks for alternatives to closing both schools in Honey Harbour

Georgian Bay Township officials are asking the province take a second look before closing rural schools.
In November, council agreed to write a letter to the Minister of Education, requesting a study into the impact of closing schools in rural communities.
Honey Harbour Public School and Our Lady Mercy Catholic School are both under accommodation reviews.
The Trillium Lakelands District School Board is recommending closing Honey Harbour Public School, and transferring students to Glen Orchard Public School.
Georgian Bay council has suggested that both the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board and the TLDSB look at combining both schools into one facility in Honey Harbour.
The TLDSB discussed these proposals during its board meeting last night.
