Muskoka Pride members at a loss for words following Orlando shooting

A member of Muskoka Pride says the organization is finding it difficult to describe its feelings on the recent shooting in Orlando, Florida.

Board member Shawn Forth says there is a lot of emotion and tension after a gay night club was targeted for a terrorist attack.

Forth says June’s Gay Pride Month is supposed to provide an opportunity to give the LGTBQ community a chance to celebrate who they are.

But, he says an event like this is a strong reminder of the opposition the community still faces.

However, support comes from many places, including the Muskoka community.

Forth says following the shooting, their organization quickly received an e-mail from Mayor Graydon Smith.

The Town of Bracebridge will continue to show its support of the LGTBQ community by keeping the Pride Flag at half-mast for the rest of this week.

The Muskoka Pride Festival kicks off on July 15th in Huntsville and July 24th in Bracebridge.
