Graydon Smith closes Bracebridge constituency office after resident berates staff

Parry Sound Muskoka MPP Graydon Smith has temporarily closed his constituency office in Bracebridge following “threatening and hostile behaviour” directed at a female staff member who was working alone.

Smith announced the closure on social media shortly after noon on Oct. 19.

He says a constituent came into the office earlier Monday morning and loudly berated the staff member over the government’s bike lane policy in Toronto.

“This behaviour is appalling and inexcusable. Disagreement with government policy is part of democracy. Threatening and intimidating staff is not,” stated Smith.

“My staff work hard to help people across our community. They deserve to feel safe at work, and I will not tolerate anyone treating them this way.”

Smith said the OPP were notified, and a police report has been filed.

He is hopeful the Bracebridge constituency office, located at 230 Manitoba Street, will re-open on Oct. 20.
