The District of Muskoka opened a new supervised depot at 4184 Southwood Road in Muskoka Lakes on July 4.
According to officials, the new Southwood Depot offers residents a convenient and reliable option for disposing of household waste, recycling, and organics.
“The opening of the Southwood Depot provides residents and seasonal property owners with a dependable waste management option that is closer to home,” said Township of Muskoka Lakes Mayor Peter Kelley. “This new facility supports a cleaner, safer, and more efficient waste management system while ensuring residents have access to the services they need.”
District officials said the initiative marks another milestone in the ongoing Bin Site Transition Project, which aims to replace Muskoka’s previously unstaffed and unsupervised dumpster sites with long-term, environmentally sustainable waste collection services.
Officials said supervised depots, along with curbside collection, Lakeside Waste Collection, and other waste programs, help provide residents with reliable and responsible waste management options.
The Southwood Depot is open Sunday from noon to 8 p.m., Monday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., Wednesday and Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. The depot is closed on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
According to the district, this site accepts residential household bagged garbage, green bin organics, and recycling only.
It’s the second depot to be unveiled in the past month. District officials opened up a new supervised depot at 1770 Beaumont Dr. in Bracebridge on June 13.
