Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department seeking volunteer firefighters

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department is looking to the community for passionate and engaged individuals to join their team as volunteer firefighters.

Officials say those interested in being considered for this year’s round of recruits can apply online by November 30.

They say to help potential applicants learn more about the role, the department will host an information session at Station 1 Huntsville (1 Payne Drive) at 7 p.m. on November 10.

“Joining our team as a volunteer firefighter is a true act of service to your community,” said Deputy Fire Chief Paul Calleja. “Whether you’ve been here for years or are new to the area, it’s a great way to forge new relationships and deepen your connection to your neighbors.”

According to officials, volunteer firefighters play a vital role in keeping the community safe and are provided with professional training, opportunities for advancement, and hourly compensation for training and emergency response. Members also qualify for the Volunteer Firefighter Tax Credit.

They say the department offers a strong team environment, ongoing certification, and the opportunity to give back to the community in a meaningful way.

While applications are accepted year-round, officials note that the department actively reviews new recruits once a year.
