Bikers are gearing up for the third annual Ride for Hospice Huntsville.
Hosted by the USS Nomad Star Trek Fan Club, the event will feature a 150-kilometre motorcycle ride, which will be followed by their first-ever Show and Shine competition.
Registration for the ride will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. this Saturday, August 2, at 6 John Street. The “Show and Shine” competition will then kick off at 2 p.m. at 3 Cann Street.
Robert Ehl, organizer and part of the fan club, says last year they raised $5,631 and adds they expect to “blow the doors off that this year.”

“In the last two years, we’ve raised over $11,000,” says Ehl. “Hospice requires $1,800 a day raised from the community to keep the doors open. So, this is an event that helps out with that.”
He said this year, 75 raffle items will be on the table, including woodworking crafts, t-shirts, local gift certificates to butcher shops, power tools and more.
He also said they have a signed Sons of Anarchy motorcycle helmet featuring signatures from six different cast members.
“And as a perk, if you register for the ride as a rider or passenger, you’re entered in an exclusive drive when an airline flight over Georgian Bay donated by Near North Aviation called the Freedom Flight,” said Ehl.
Ehl said this year the ride will go out to Rosseau to Port Carling, to Bracebridge, up to 141 and back out to Huntsville.
Tickets for the ride are $30 per rider and $25 per passenger. The cost to enter the Show and Shine competition is $5 per person.
“Every cent raised tomorrow goes to hospice,” he says.
