The third annual Ride for Hospice Huntsville raised nearly $8,000 on Saturday, bringing the three-year total for the event over $19,000.
That is according to Robert Ehl, organizer and part of the USS Nomad Star Trek Fan Club, which hosted the event.
“It was over a $2,500 increase from my last couple of years,” said Ehl.
“The event was fantastic. The weather was great. The riders were fantastic. Everybody was safe. It was pulled off without a hitch. A lot of the community got involved,” said Ehl.
According to Ehl, this year’s event had 64 riders and 16 passengers. He said the new location at John and Cann Streets also attracted local businesses and community members.
“We had a lot of community come down, and at some points it was really crowded like a farmer’s market,” he said. “It was well over 150 people.”
Ehl said all the raffle items were sold, even after community members also showed up on the day of the event to donate more items on the spot.
He said MPP Graydon Smith attended the event and gave a speech. Ehl said Smith has always been “very supportive” of the club and what they do.
“The Hospice takes $1,800 a day to stay open,” he said. “We’ve made 10 days’ worth of hospice staying open over the three years. So, I want to see this ride keep going and growing.”
