Palette and Pour event to raise funds for Hospice Huntsville

An art-focused fundraising event with a Mardi Gras flair is set to take over Canvas Brewery in Huntsville on February 6 from 6 to 10 p.m. in support of Hospice Huntsville.

The event is a new take on Hospice Huntsville’s former Harvest Fest fundraisers, shifting both the season and the focus, according to Hospice Huntsville’s Signature Events Coordinator Tracy Badger.

“We’ve just changed the time of year, and we’ve changed the focus to be specifically related to art,” said Badger. “The other thing we’ve added this year is the theme – with it being February, we are having a Mardi Gras theme.”

Keeping with the theme, the evening will feature Louisiana-inspired appetizers prepared by Spencer’s Culinary Creations and Catering, along with jazz-inspired live music by local musician Tobin Spring and his band.

One of the highlights of the evening will be a live art challenge, where four local artists will have 45 minutes to complete a painting in front of guests, which will then be auctioned off later in the evening.

Attendees can also take part in a Wine Cork Pull, where participants purchase a cork for $20 and exchange it for a mystery bottle of wine valued at $20 or more.

Canvas Brewery will contribute to the cause by donating all proceeds from sales of its Masquerade IPA, which will be available on tap during the event.

As part of the fundraising efforts, Hospice Huntsville is holding an art auction featuring locally created artwork. The auction launched on January 22 and includes a wide variety of pieces, some of which will be displayed in the Canvas Brewery taproom on the day of the event. A preview of auction items will also be held at Hospice Huntsville’s Community Hub room on January 28 from 3 to 6 p.m.

Badger said the range of donated artwork reflects the generosity and creativity of the community.

“We have some incredible paintings. We have pottery, fibre art, knit items, some priceless items that have been donated in memory of loved ones, some stonework – we even have an item that is made from drill-core rock from the old Canadian Shield,” she said. “We have had so many beautiful donations from generous artists in the community.”

Tickets for Palette and Pour and access to the art auction can be found on the Hospice Huntsville website.
