Local legion president unsure about possible Remembrance Day statutory holiday
The president of the Huntsville Royal Canadian Legion is concerned about November 11th becoming a stat holiday. Betty Smith says she personally loves the idea, but students learn about Remembrance Day at services through the school.
Most of our MPs voted in favour of Bill C-597 expect for two. The bill is now before the heritage committee for review. It will then come back to the House of Commons for a final vote. Meantime, residents will be gathering at the Huntsville cenotaph at around 10:30am for the 11am ceremony. The legion will be hosting an indoor service as well with lunch provided followed by a town parade at 1:30pm.
