Paramedic in Muskoka tests positive for COVID-19

A member of the Muskoka Paramedic Services has tested positive for COVID-19.

The District says two other paramedics are self-isolating “out of an abundance of caution.”

The District of Muskoka says the original case is believed to be from close contact and not from an interaction with a patient or staff member. The three paramedics are reported by the District to be at home isolating and recovering.

“The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit is assisting with contact tracing and considers the risk to other staff and the community to be low,” the District says.

“Our paramedics remain focused on safely providing excellent care to patients and continuing to meet the needs of the community throughout this pandemic,” Chief of Paramedic Services and Emergency Planning with the District Jeff McWilliam says. “All paramedic staff wear personal protective equipment and adhere to rigorous infection prevention and control practices to ensure the safety of themselves, fellow staff, patients and the community.”

The District says regular updates will be given to staff and community.
