District council extending an ATV pilot project by six months

ATVers in Muskoka are getting some more time on district-regulated roads. The District of Muskoka has extended its pilot project to allow off-road vehicles on all Muskoka roads in Lake of Bays, Muskoka Lakes and Huntsville. It was originally going end on July 19th, but has been extended to December 31st, 2017.

Lake of Bays Mayor Bob Young says some district councilors were on board with extending the project indefinitely, but the Public Works department is still evaluating the program.

Young says Lake of Bays has already passed a bylaw for township regulated roads, and there hasn’t been any complaints about the noise or safety concerns.

The District of Muskoka bylaw says ATVs are allowed on district controlled roads in Muskoka Lakes, Lake of Bays and Huntsville from half an hour after sunrise to half an hour before sunset.

More details about the specific roads ATVs are allowed on are available on the District of Muskoka website.
