The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board has balanced its budget for the next school year.
Officials with the board say effective cost cuts have led to an expected $1.4 million dollar surplus for the 2017-2018 operating budget.
This comes after the board was able to clear a $2.5 million dollar deficit last year and avoid an expected $1.1 million deficit for 2017.
Director of Education Brian Beal says he gives credit to all the schools in the board, which worked to cut down on costs wherever possible.
The $266 million budget includes a one per cent reserve of operating revenue that will be built up over the next two years.
