Muskoka councillor calls for more police transparency in light of recent sexual assault report

Councillors with the District of Muskoka want more transparency from the OPP.
Councillor Don Smith says he’s been motivated for change by the recent report on the high amount of sexual assaults in Muskoka being deemed baseless by police.
He says this is proof there needs to be more communication.
During a Tuesday meeting, councillors all voted to approve the plan to receive a quarterly report from the OPP.
Smith says while the district can’t tell the OPP how to police the community, it can help provide direction.
The first of these quarterly reports is expected to be presented to council in April.
This year the district will spend over $15 million on police services in Muskoka.
