Body of North York man recovered from Severn River

ORILLIA, ON- The body of a man who went missing while swimming in the Severn River has been found.

According to a news release from the Orillia OPP, the man was part of a group of coworkers who went swimming in the Severn River on Tuesday, just after midnight near Hamlet Bridge 57.

The group had decided to go to bed after swimming, and were unable to find one of their coworkers the morning afterwards. Police were contacted.

Members of the Orillia detachment, Central Region Emergency Response Team (ERT), Central Region Canine, the Marine Unit, and Aviation Services responded and searched the area.

After an unsuccessful ground search, the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) was called to conduct a search of the river.

After a short search the OPP USRU located the body of the swimmer.

The deceased has been identified as 48-year-old Juan Salazar-Hizen of North York.
