Bracebridge officials may go forward with a plan to move the public library.
In the upcoming general committee meeting, town councillors will be reviewing a plan to add the library to the proposed arena on Salmon Avenue. This recommendation comes from Sierra Planning and Management, which was contracted by the town to review the options of adding the library to the arena or renovating the original building downtown. In a report to the town, Sierra suggested the cost of adding the library to a multi-use facility would be much less than renovating the old building. Town officials want to update and expand the library to provide more accessibility and space for meetings and storage. Last year, the town announced it would be moving forward with replacing the aging Bracebridge Memorial Arena with a new facility behind Gagnon’s Your Independent Grocer. Officials have not announced a start date for construction on the new facility yet. General committee will start at 9:00am on Tuesday.
