The Algonquin Park Christmas Bird Count seeing a drop in numbers

There were fewer bird sightings in Algonquin Park in 2016 during the Christmas Bird Count than most years. During the 43rd Algonquin Park Christmas Bird Count, bird watchers were able to see over 2,700 birds from 25 different species.

There are an average of over 4,500 bird sightings ranging from 27 different species during the event. The Bird Count happened on December 30th, and that day’s cloudy, snowy, and windy conditions may have made it harder to see birds in the park.
