Public meeting on the Madill Church next month in Huntsville

Huntsville is hosting a public meeting in August to talk about a historic church that might be torn down. The Madill Church is owned by the United Church of Canada, which has told Huntsville officials it no longer has any interest or use in owning it. It says it will demolish the building if the municipality doesn’t take over the deed.

The log building was built in 1873 and Founder of Huntsville, Captain George Hunt, is buried in the graveyard beside it. It’s no longer in regular use, but the UCC was holding annual services there.

Because of the age of the church, work is needed to fix it up. No details on how much that will cost have been released yet.

The town released an online survey for input on what to do with it in June, and now a meeting will be held. It’s happening on August 17th at 6:00pm, at the Active Living Centre. Contact Huntsville’s Manager of Arts, Culture and Heritage if you plan to attend at [email protected].
