SMH Get Better fundraiser finishes earlier and higher than expected

A fundraising effort that was expected to take four years has raised more money expected in just over two.
The South Muskoka Hospital Foundation Get Better campaign had a goal of $6.5 million set in order to upgrades technology at the hospital.
On Wednesday the foundation announced it had been able to raise $6.75 million.
Foundation Chair, Paul Hammond says he is still amazed at how generous Muskoka residents are.
The money will be used to upgrade digital imaging technology, install and electronic health record system, automate pharmacy operations and expand video conferencing for patients to connect with specialists.
The initiative was started, in-part, with help from Philanthropist Peter Gilgan, who donated $1 million to the hospital.
Hammond also acknowledges the work of the volunteer campaign cabinet, led by co-chairs Ronald Doty and Dr. Kent Phillips as well as committee chairs Henry & Elsie Hillman, William Hitchcock and Robert McLeish.
