A Port Severn man has been fined $19,000 for unlawfully placing floating accommodations on provincial waterways.
According to the Ontario Court of Justice, an investigation found that four floating accommodations were placed on public land in the waters of Georgian Bay near Port Severn between May 2024 and February 2025.
The investigation determined that Joseph Nimens owned the accommodations through his business, which officials said operated under the slogan “Live on the Bay.”
Officials said during this time, Nimens moved the floating accommodations between six locations, where they remained for 20 to 99 days, including winter periods when they froze in place.
According to the Public Lands Act, floating accommodations cannot be placed or used on public lands covered by water.
As a result, Nimens was fined on Sept. 2 and was ordered by the court to remove the floating accommodations.
