Moose FM radiothons return in support of local hospital foundations

Moose FM has once again partnered with hospital foundations in Bracebridge and Huntsville for radiothon fundraisers.

105.5 Moose FM’s 11th annual “Our Community Cares” Radiothon is in support of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation (HHF), and 99.5 Moose FM’s 19th Annual Hospital Thanksgiving Radiothon is in support of the South Muskoka Hospital Foundation (SMHF).

The 12-hour fundraiser will take place Oct. 9, with the Moose FM crew and foundations officials on air from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. to raise awareness and funds for HHF’s Raise Muskoka campaign and emergency care at South Muskoka Memorial Hospital.

The day will feature special programming with guest speakers, hourly sponsors, power hours, and stories from patients who have experienced care at the hospital.

Local businesses throughout Huntsville will also take part by donating a portion of sales from specific items to the campaign.

“The Radiothon is such an important event for us, not only does it raise important hospital funds and donations, but it raises awareness and brings the community together around the hospital,” said Trish Kruusmagi, development officer with the HHF. “It also gives listeners, donors and grateful patients the opportunity to share their stories.”

Kruusmagi said the event serves as an important reminder of the role the hospital plays in the community and the need for continued support.

“It reminds everyone that this is our hospital, and all of us will need it at some point,” she said. “It also demonstrates a message to the nurses, physicians and all the hospital staff that the community is behind them.”

Leah Walker, CEO and Executive Director of the SMHF, said this is one of their biggest fundraisers of the year with a goal of $100,000.

“Funds raised from the day will support everything to do with providing emergency care,” she said. “That includes equipment for our emergency department, but also the departments that support emergency care.”

Walker said it is important for them because initiatives like this ensure their healthcare teams have what they need to care for the community.

Last year, the Huntsville radiothon raised over $150,000, while the Bracebridge event raised $108,500.

You can made a donation by calling the Huntsville Hospital Foundation at 705-789-4756 or the Bracebridge studio at 705-645-2218. Donations can also be made online by clicking here for the HHF and here for the SMHF.
