Hanna Park playground rehabilitation construction set to begin Sept. 14

The Township of Muskoka Lakes is moving forward with the Hanna Park Playground Rehabilitation project, with construction set to begin Sept. 14.

According to officials, the move follows more than a year of community engagement, independent playground inspections and expert review.

Officials said the existing structure, which is more than 25 years old, had reached the end of its service life and posed safety risks to the community.

Staff said the new playground is expected to retain many of the features the community values while providing a larger space that more closely reflects the character and play value of the existing playground.

In August, council approved increasing the project budget from the original $261,300 to $550,000 to support a larger playground design that honours the existing playground’s legacy while providing a safe and accessible play area for future generations.

According to officials, the final design carries forward many of the features the community values about the existing playground, including timber towers, connected and elevated play, climbing features, slides, swings and plenty of opportunities for imaginative play.

During construction, officials said the playground will remain closed until further notice, while the surrounding area of Hanna Park will remain open.
