Ladies Auxiliary convention bringing hundreds to Muskoka

Members of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary from across Ontario will be gathering in Muskoka.

The Ladies Auxiliary Provincial Command will host its 61st Biennial Provincial Convention at the Bracebridge Fairgrounds from May 31 to June 2.

Approximately 700 members of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary, along with their families, are expected to attend the convention from communities across the province.

Betty Smith, Co-Chair of the Local Arrangement Committee and District E Commander for the Royal Canadian Legion Ontario Command, said the convention will not only provide an opportunity for members to reconnect and collaborate, but will also provide a boost to local businesses throughout Muskoka.

“This will have an economic impact on the region, especially in Huntsville, Bracebridge, and Gravenhurst,” Smith said. “Please welcome these ladies to our area.”

Smith said the Ladies Auxiliary plays an important role in supporting the work of Royal Canadian Legion branches across Ontario through fundraising efforts, volunteer support, and assistance with programs and activities that benefit veterans, legion members, and local communities.

“Becoming an auxiliary member can be a very rewarding experience. Our auxiliary’s goals are important to us, and so are our members,” Smith said. “We are grateful for whatever time you can spare to assist with this great national organization.”

Throughout the year, Ladies Auxiliary groups organize fundraising events that help support local legion branches, healthcare facilities and programs, school activities, bursaries, cadet organizations, Girl Guides, Brownies, and youth sports initiatives.

In many communities, legion housing projects have also been established and maintained with the support of local Ladies Auxiliary members.
