Gravenhurst to review, update town’s Official Plan

The Town of Gravenhurst is reviewing and updating its official plan to align the municipality’s priorities for the next 30 years.

“The Official Plan review is an important exercise, and I encourage all members of our community to pay attention to this process and participate when appropriate,” said Mayor Heidi Lorenz.

According to municipal officials, the review is an opportunity to develop an updated plan that reflects the community’s needs and will serve as a dynamic roadmap to guide the town over the next three decades.

Officials said the plan aims to encourage economic vitality, support smart and sustainable growth, ensure environmental protection, and earmark infrastructure requirements. It also seeks to identify new parks and public spaces, outline transportation opportunities, and promote community identity through building and neighbourhood design.

“This will be more than just a plan; it will create a shared vision for Gravenhurst, and that is such an important thing to have if we are to successfully build the community we want,” said Melissa Halford, director of development services for the Town.

To gather public feedback, the town will host a special meeting on June 16 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers, where the public will be able to comment on issues they believe should be considered as part of the Official Plan review. Written and oral submissions are welcome.

Officials said the town will also have other public engagement opportunities later in the summer and early fall.
