The District of Muskoka reported seven incidents between April 1 and June 30, 2026.
That is according to the latest Hate Stops Here Portal report, presented during the July 20 council meeting.
The report details reported incidents of graffiti or vandalism, verbal harassment, bullying or intimidation, discrimination, symbolic acts of hate, and other forms of hate-motivated behaviour.
Verbal harassment was the most commonly reported offence, with five incidents, followed by bullying or intimidation, with two reported incidents.
Gravenhurst Mayor Heidi Lorenz said she filed one of the reports after witnessing “a very upsetting situation.”
“I just wanted to say I can’t imagine being the person that the attack was made on in the store that I was in,” she said. “I was a bystander and I stepped in because that’s the right thing to do. I was really uncomfortable and really nervous to do it, but it was the right thing to do. I just think to myself, imagine if it was directed at you, how that would make you feel in this community.”
Lorenz highlighted the importance of continuing the initiative, saying it helps raise awareness and recognize the situations occurring within the community.
