District of Muskoka expands operating hours at some waste depots

The District of Muskoka is expanding the operating hours at the South Gibson and Honey Harbour Depots following public feedback.

According to officials, it comes after more than 200 residents shared their feedback through a survey, helping shape the new schedule to better meet community needs.

As a result, residents and seasonal property owners in the Georgian Bay area will have more opportunities to drop off household waste, recycling, and organics beginning Aug. 4.

Under the updated schedule, the South Gibson Depot will be open Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Meanwhile, the Honey Harbour Depot will operate Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., remain closed on Tuesdays during the summer, and be open Saturdays and Sundays from noon to 8 p.m.

The District said the new schedule adds almost 50 additional hours of service each week, between the two depots, giving residents more flexibility to visit when it works best for them.
