The Locks Bridge in Huntsville is undergoing critical rehabilitation work aimed at improving safety and extending the structure’s lifespan.
Construction is taking place on Brunel Road from Lockview Road to the Brunel Locks, and officials say it’s expected to continue through to this summer.
According to town officials, the project includes repairs and recoating of the bridge’s structural steel truss components, resurfacing of the bridge deck and nearby approach roads, and upgrades to guardrails and roadside barriers. New signage will also be installed to improve awareness of vertical clearance for vehicles.
Drivers should expect intermittent delays along Brunel Road, as traffic across the bridge will be reduced to a single lane controlled by automated signals.
Lockview Road access will be closed for part of the project, with a detour available via North Mary Lake Road.
Officials said construction activity is expected to bring increased noise to the area, including some weekend work permitted under local by-laws.
Additional signage will be posted to help guide drivers safely through the work zone. To help manage congestion during busy periods, dedicated flagging will be in place during peak morning and afternoon school hours.
Up-to-date information on detours and closures is available through Municipal 511.
