The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s (SMDHU) 2026–2029 Strategic Plan focuses on community engagement, equity-driven action, quality and innovation, and supporting a skilled and connected workforce.
According to officials, this strategic plan, released on Jan. 23, outlines a new direction for the organization, focusing on organizational renewal and long-term health priorities for the region.
“At its core, the new strategic plan reinforces our commitment to collaboration to improve the health of communities across Simcoe Muskoka,” says Ann-Marie Kungl, SMDHU’s Board of Health Chair. “As a board, we are confident that, guided by this plan, the health unit will continue to lead with excellence and accountability, ensuring healthier communities for all.”
The plan seeks to meet the evolving public health needs and to continually enhance its work with communities for the next four years with four new strategic directions.
Officials said these new strategic directions, developed with input from employees, board members, and community partners, focus on building resilient relationships, advancing health equity, and ensuring services are both high-quality and evidence-based.
Health officials said this plan is the first developed under the leadership of SMDHU’s new Medical Officer of Health and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Lisa Simon, whose permanent appointment to the role is currently awaiting provincial confirmation.
