Bracebridge’s Macaulay Public School tops locally in Fraser Institute rankings

Over 3,000 Ontario elementary schools are included in the latest Fraser Institute rankings, including a baker’s dozen in our area.

The rankings are based on nine academic indicators derived from provincewide test results.

The top-ranked schools locally are Macaulay Public School in Bracebridge and Glen Orchard Public School in Port Carling, which both scored of 8.0 out of 10.

Muskoka Falls Public School was next with a score of 7.5, followed by Huntsville Public School at 6.7.

Saint Mary Catholic School (3.7) and Monsignor Michael O’Leary Catholic School (4.5) had the lowest scores locally.

Officials say the rankings allow parents to compare the academic performance of schools across the province.

“Our Report Cards offer parents information they can’t easily get anywhere else, about how their child’s school performs and how it compares to other schools in Ontario,” says Paige MacPherson, Fraser Institute senior fellow.

Public, Catholic, and independent schools were included in the rankings.
