Township of Muskoka Lakes seeking public input on priorities for Bala Community Reserve Fund

The Township of Muskoka Lakes has launched a survey to gather public input and help identify priorities for the $192,400 available in the Bala Community Reserve Fund.

According to officials, the funds have remained unallocated since the Township received them in 2024 through a temporary land lease agreement with Swift River Energy Limited during the construction of a hydroelectric generating station in Bala.

In 2025, the Township conducted an initial community survey to identify areas of interest and potential projects for the Bala community.

Following the initial survey and direction from Council, officials said the Township is returning to the community for a second round of input to further define priorities for enhancements that the available funds could support.

As a result, staff have grouped several projects and areas for consideration, including enhancements to Bala Bay Dock, additional boat parking, improved pedestrian infrastructure and connections, and enhancements to Jaspen Park, Windsor Park and Muskoka Lakes Sports Park.

Other areas under consideration include streetscape improvements along Bala Falls Road, as well as community landmarks and public art.

Staff said these areas provide a framework for identifying community priorities, considering available funding, and ensuring alignment with the Township’s Economic Development Strategy and Community Improvement Plan.

Officials said the reserve funds will support enhancements not yet planned for Township projects already included in its 10-year Capital Plan. The survey will provide an opportunity to submit additional ideas for consideration.

The survey will remain open until Sept. 30, and residents can also submit feedback in person at the Township office. For more information or to complete the survey, click here.
