Winter parking regulations take effect across Muskoka

Winter parking regulations have come into place across Muskoka.

Overnight parking restrictions are now in effect from midnight to 7 a.m. until April 15 to ensure that proper snow removal operations can take place without obstruction.

“I don’t think people always realize how dangerous it can be to leave a vehicle parked on the road in winter, especially once the snowbanks build up and the road narrows,” said Steve Peace, Lake of Bays Director of Public Works. “When our plow operators come across a parked car, they sometimes have to back out long stretches in poor conditions. It’s not safe, and it slows everyone down.”

Officials said any vehicles found interfering with snow removal will be subject to penalties and may be towed at the owner’s expense.

Certain streets within each municipality have no winter parking, even during the day, to accommodate necessary snow storage.

Check your municipal website for specific parking restrictions.
