Update: Gravenhurst council amends overnight winter parking by-law

The Town of Gravenhurst has approved amendments to the overnight winter parking bylaw, removing all overnight parking on highways, sidewalks, and municipal road allowances.

According to a report presented at the Dec. 16 meeting, the amendments update Sections 4 and 5 of the parking control bylaw, which was approved in September.

Under the updated Section 4, parking is prohibited on all highways, boulevards, sidewalks, and municipal road allowances between 12:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m., from Nov. 1 to April 30.

The previous version permitted angle parking along Muskoka Beach Road in two specific locations, the East side of Muskoka Beach Road, North of Winewood Ave. E. and the West side of Muskoka Beach Rd. at 1141 Muskoka Beach Rd.

With the amendments, overnight parking is no longer permitted in these areas.

Council also added Section 5.5, which establishes a general prohibition on overnight parking within all municipal lots during the winter season. From Nov. 1 to April 30, vehicles are not permitted in these lots between midnight and 7:00 a.m. unless specific permission has been granted.

Officials said that despite the new addition to Section 5, Section 5.4 remains in effect, allowing vehicles with snowmobile trailers to park overnight in designated snowmobile staging areas from Nov. 1 to March 31.
