The U13D South Muskoka Bears hockey team will be holding a fundraiser and barbeque on Saturday (Sept. 6) from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 11 Monica Lane in Bracebridge.
Officials say this is a unique fundraiser because attendees who donate will have the opportunity to shoot a puck at a car.
Head Coach Darryl Hely said the idea comes from growing up playing hockey in the street and now playing with his sons – they always have to watch out to not hit cars.
Hely says he then began to look for people who were willing to donate an old car.
“I thought it’d be fun and different for people to shoot pucks at a car and not get in trouble,” said Hely.
He says the funds raised will support the team with costs involved in tournaments, extra time on the ice, fitness training, gear and hopefully some tracksuits.
“…to make us look more like a team,” he said.
Hely is hopeful the fundraiser goes well.
“They’re a good group of kids, just trying to do what I can to make it a good experience for them.”
