Multiple events happening around Earth Day in Muskoka

Earth Day will be your chance to learn how to be a “planet protector.”

On April 20, the Bracebridge Library is hosting the first-ever “Earth Day Planet Protectors” event at Memorial Park in Bracebridge. It’s happening from 1 to 3 p.m. and features children’s performer Wilderness Betty, nature-related games, recycled crafts, and sustainable snacks.

The provincial Parry Sound-Muskoka Green Party will be hosting “Heat, Eat, Grow, Go” at the Active Living Centre in Huntsville from 1:30 to 4 p.m. on Saturday. The workshops will feature local panelists talking about sustainability. You have to register to attend.

Also on Saturday, a repair café is being hosted at Knox Presbyterian Church at 120 Taylor Rd. in Bracebridge. Volunteers will be on hand to fix broken household items.

Earth Day is April 22 and will see a compost giveaway at Gostick Park in Bracebridge. It will be handed out at the rear entrance to the park off Donald St. on a first-come-first-service basis to Bracebridge residents only. You’re being asked to bring a container and shovel.

Muskoka Lakes is hosting a clean-up day on Monday.

The first event starts at 10 a.m. at Hanna Park in Port Carling while the second begins at 1 p.m. at the Precambrian Shield Parking Lot in Bala.

Mayor of Muskoka Lakes Peter Kelley says Earth Day is a great time to get together, but reminds everyone to clean up during the other 364 days of the year. “As we continue to face environmental challenges around the world, the small things in communities like ours will have a great impact on the environment and driving ecological transition,” he says.
