The Muskoka Watershed Council is celebrating a busy year of shoreline recovery.
The Council was able to renaturalize 10 different shorelines in Muskoka.
These were ten privately owned properties on six lakes within the District of Muskoka. Native trees, shrubs, and wildflowers were planted to help the ecosystems of the shore and lakes involved.
These changes help to improve water quality, reduce erosion and enhance fish and wildlife habitat.
Funding for Restore Your Muskoka Shore was done through the Great Lakes Guardian Community Fund.
The Muskoka Watershed Council is appreciative of the lake associations for participating in the program, along with the families that had their shoreline renaturalized.
The participating associations were:
- Stewart Lake Association  (Township of Georgian Bay)
- Three Mile Lake Association  (Township of Muskoka Lakes)
- Moot Lake Cottage Association  (Township of Lake of Bays)
- Muldrew Lakes Cottagers’ Association  (Town of Gravenhurst)
- McKay Lake Association  (Town of Bracebridge)
- Lake Vernon Association  (Town of Huntsville)
The Council also points to the District Municipality of Muskoka for its assistance in the administration and support of the projects.
Also, Watersheds Canada helped with a variety of resources and helped with the planting plans.
