The OPP is warning ice in the area may be too thin to sled on with the recent warmer weather. Police are asking snowmobilers to be extra cautious, saying the phrase “no ice is safe ice” is especially true this time of year.
The OPP says the temperature may drop to freezing overnight, but that doesn’t mean lakes and rivers are totally frozen over. There have been many reports of sledders going through the ice this winter, and the OPP is strongly advising everyone to stay off.
However, if you do decide to go on the ice, check the thickness of it first. Carry an ice pick, wear a buoyant snowsuit, and never travel alone.
