Fire ban in Algonquin Park over while forest fire rages on

The fire ban in Algonquin Park is over.  The ban was lifted late yesterday morning allowing campers to once again to enjoy campfires in the organized and back country sites.  The Park received over 34 millimetres of rain over the weekend.  However, people planning on a trip to the park are cautioned to be careful with campfires, never leave them unattended and only have fires in designates areas.

Meanwhile, the 30 hectare forest fire burning in Algonquin is still considered out of control.  Six crews are working to contain the 30-hectare fire in the east end near the High Falls area.  There is some good news; the rain has allowed crews to establish control lines around the perimeter of the fire.  Back country sites in the area are still closed.
