District of Muskoka shows support for Andy’s House

A request for funding that was denied by the Hospital Funding Allocation Committee may still receiving funding from the District of Muskoka.

After the HFAC denied the request for $200,000 towards the project, organizers of the Hospice Andy’s House went to district council to plead their case.

Vice Chair of Hospice Muskoka Mary Grady explained that without support from the district the hospice may be less likely to receive approval for funding from the North Simcoe Local Health Integrated Network.

Hearing this, council made the decision that the district would consider funding the $200,000 under the stipulation that LHIN did approve the project.

Councillors feel this will be enough to show LHIN there is local support for hospice.

Grady says they will need to raise $2.5 million in order to build the hospice and have enough for the first year of operational costs.
