Tensions rise as debate continues about proposed Barkway gun range

A purposed gun range for the Gravenhurst and District Conservation Ryde Club is taking it’s next steps. Gravenhurst Council heard from members of the public last night who say they’re very concerned. One man says he lives 450 yards away from the proposed range and his children walk to school – he worries about stray bullets. But an OPP spokesperson replied that in Ontario, safety has been taken a step higher and no rounds are allowed to leave the range. Councillor Randy Jorgensen does not support the range, because he says council really has no idea what their getting into without a design.  But, Scott Lucas, Director of Development Services says he doesn’t think it’s a completely uneducated exercise, as forecasted noise levels suggest they’re within limits. The range’s engineering company can now submit their application to the OPP.
