The District of Muskoka has launched a free program to help older adults learn the basics in a friendly, small group setting.
Officials said the six-week program is designed for beginners and those looking for a refresher.
During each week, officials said participants will have two hours to learn, practice, and ask questions at their own pace. Users of Apple, Samsung, Google, Motorola and other smartphones are welcome to participate.
Officials said the program will cover a range of topics, including downloading and using apps, taking photos, using smartphone assistants, learning social media basics, staying safe and secure online, and tips for making smartphones easier and more comfortable to use.
The program will be offered at two locations. Sessions at the Raymond Community Centre will take place Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to noon, from Sept. 30 to Nov. 4. Sessions at Village Square, Vankoughnet in Bracebridge will be held Thursdays from 1 to 3 p.m., from Oct. 1 to Nov. 5.
According to officials, more sessions are planned for Torrance, Baysville and Severn Bridge in late 2026 and early 2027.
The district said the program is thanks to a $25,000 grant from the Province of Ontario’s Seniors Community Grant.
