According to Bracebridge Mayor Rick Maloney, water levels in some water bodies are beginning to recede, while others remain steady or are only seeing gradual increases.
Maloney provided an update on the current flood conditions on April 22. He said the water on the Big East River has receded about 4 feet, while the South Branch of the Muskoka River and Baysville remain steady, with some increases over time.
“The mouth of the river continues to the big area of focus,” he said, noting that some areas saw water levels increase an inch over the past 24 hours, while others dealt with increases of two to three inches.
“We’re continuing to do some wellness checks on identified areas down in the mouth of the river to make sure people are continuing to do okay,” he said.
Residents can expect some noticeable relief over the next few days, according to Maloney, as flows recede further north in the watershed, and no significant precipitation is expected over the next 48 hours.
According to Maloney, the District of Muskoka will be providing information on how to dispose of flood-related debris, as well as guidance on handling sandbags.
“This is not a time for recreational boating. The marinas are closed. Our George Road boat launch is busy with contractors and other property owners that are trying to go check their property, so please do not consider this as an opportunity for some recreational boating,” he said.
The Ministry of Natural Resources has extended the flood warning for the Bracebridge, Minden, Parry Sound District until April 29.
