Town of Bracebridge officially opens new Memorial Park bandshell

The Town of Bracebridge officially opened the new Memorial Park bandshell on June 24 after nearly a year of closure.

The celebrations started at 5:30 p.m. and included remarks from Mayor Rick Maloney, performances such as “O Canada” by local youth Sophie Mann and the Legion Pipe and Drum Band, and a community cake cutting.

Maloney said the bandshell has been a fixture in Memorial Park for over 120 years and that there have been several different bandshells in the park over time.

“This newest Bandshell is fully accessible, it’s got great sight lines, it is going to be great for acoustics, a new audio system, lighting and gardens around it,” he said and added he is pleased with how the project finished off.

He also said the new bandshell is “highly recognizable” and “very photogenic” for residents and visitors, adding that it will help people make new memories in the park for generations to come.

Town officials said the new bandshell stands as a lasting legacy project of Bracebridge’s 150-year anniversary and represents the collaboration, generosity, and community spirit that make Bracebridge a special place.
