Huntsville’s Trinity United Church fundraiser to support community services, church renovations

The Trinity United Church in Huntsville currently has an online silent auction underway, aimed at raising funds to support essential services and upcoming renovations.

The auction runs until April 27 and features more than 160 items donated by local businesses and residents. Bidders can choose from a wide range of offerings, including clothing, gift baskets, gift certificates, a canoe trip, an archery session, and more.

In addition to traditional auction items, organizers encouraged “time and talent” donations, allowing community members to hone their skills for the cause. These contributions include baked goods, hosted dinners, pickleball lessons, spring concert tickets, and a performance by a party singer.

Auction co-chair Gord Mitchell said the church is extremely grateful for the number of donations they have received, noting that this year has seen the highest number of donations yet, with a combined value of approximately $14,000.

“We are so pleased with all the support,” he said. “There is something for everyone.”

The fundraiser began in 2018 as a small, in-person event with contributions from church members. Since then, it has grown significantly, with donations and funds raised increasing each year. This is the second year the auction has been offered through an online platform, expanding its reach further across the community.

“Our silent auction has become one of our main money generators that helps keep our church operating and being the heart of Huntsville,” Mitchell said.

Funds raised will go toward several initiatives, including support for the Lighthouse Foodbank and health hub services. Proceeds will also help fund renovations to the church’s sanctuary space, which is being transformed into a community entertainment centre for local performing arts groups. Planned upgrades include expanding the stage and installing air conditioning in preparation for the summer months.

“The church has been growing every year,” Mitchell said. “We help a lot of people with our outreach.”
