The Huntsville District Memorial Hospital now has a new mammography unit, providing breast imaging services to residents across Muskoka and the surrounding area.
Muskoka Algonquin Healthcare said the milestone was made possible through the generosity of the Huntsville Hospital Foundation and its dedicated donors.
According to officials, the new GE Senographe Pristina mammography unit represents a major upgrade over the previous system, using advanced 3D tomosynthesis technology to produce clearer, more detailed images that help improve the detection and diagnosis of lesions in dense breast tissue.
Officials also said the new system enables faster and more efficient image acquisition, reducing the time patients spend under compression while also incorporating features designed to enhance comfort and more efficient workflow.
Health officials said mammography services at the Huntsville District Memorial Hospital were paused in January to allow for installation of the new system, but the clinic has now reopened, welcoming patients into a “refreshed space equipped with leading-edge technology designed to enhance both clinical excellence and patient comfort.”
Routine mammography services have now resumed at the Huntsville Hospital, and patients will be contacted regarding any rebooked appointments as needed,” said health officials.
