Hydro One hosting info sessions on new Sudbury to Barrie transmission line

Hydro One will host two community open houses to discuss the new priority transmission line between Sudbury and Barrie.

According to Hydro One officials, the project will see the construction of a new single-circuit, 500-kilovolt transmission line spanning approximately 300 kilometers from the Hanmer transformer station outside Sudbury to the Essa transformer station near Barrie.

According to the province, the new line is expected to be in service by 2032. Officials say it will create more than 9,000 jobs and help drive economic growth across northern Ontario for decades to come. The Ford government also says that the transmission line will help combat energy demand in the north, which is expected to increase 81 per cent by 2050.

On April 16, an open house will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Bracebridge Sportsplex. A virtual open house will follow on April 21 from 6 to 7 p.m.
