Local metastatic cancer patient raised $23,000 for the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie

A year after her metastatic cancer diagnosis, a Muskoka resident raised $23,000 for Barrie’s Royal Victoria Hospital.

Kate Monk says the money was raised during a fundraiser she hosted in Bracebridge on June 20 called the “1-Hour Solo Dance Walk,” which aimed to raise awareness and highlight the realities of living with the disease.

Monk says the funds will support the Hudson Regional Cancer Centre (HRCC) at the hospital, adding she’s pleased to give back to the centre, with many Muskoka residents travelling to the facility for treatment.

“Thank you to the oncology experts for the past year of unbelievable support, and thank you to everyone who helped me give back to help them continue to help Muskokans,” she said.
